Welcome to my website – this is my first foray into the world of marketing, solely for the purpose of promoting my very first novel! I guess I’ll start off by talking about me, and next time we can go into how Exceptionally Unconventional came about.

I live on the side of a mountain (literally) and watch the world go by (daily) with my dogs and my horses within reach. Most of the time that I spend writing, I have the company of one or both of my canine furbabies and my Spotify playlist made up of soundtracks from my favourite historical tv shows.

This is Rogue – also known as Wiggle. He’s an incredibly distracting writing companion.
And this is Revan – his nickname is Poopy. There’s a story behind that one…

Its a miracle that I get anything done with these two around, which makes the fact that I got an entire novel typed out all the more amazing.

It’s probably round about now that I should mention the humans that I share these two hairballs with. My husband Spencer and my younger sister Chintzia also live here – either or both of them are going to feign offence when they read this post, but we all know that the doggos are the ones that rule this roost so they get first mention.

Spencer and I bought our 20 acre horse farm in the Lockyer Valley in 2018 and we built our first house here two years ago. We moved in about two weeks before COVID became a thing on a weekend that was accompanied by the first torrential rain after a severe drought.

My sister moved in with us last year, she’s 14 years younger than me. I also have a brother who is 5 years younger. We lost our mum to cancer in November 2021, but I was lucky enough to have been able to share the whole manuscript of my book with her before she passed. She was never a big reader, but she got through my work chapter at a time as I wrote it. I also got an irate phone call from her when she found out that I’d finished it because she hated the ending – which is why it now has an epilogue that I wrote just for her.

This is our amazing farm, and that is my crazy Arabian x Connemara mare, Koda. On the weekends we spend our time in the saddle either training or competing with our endurance horses in long distance competitions.

I’ve been interested in creative writing since I was in primary school. I had a teacher who encouraged me to write and in doing so she set me on a path to become the high-achieving English student I would graduate as in high school. I wrote a 22 page review essay for “Bend It Like Beckham” when I was thirteen and received the only A in the class. My favourite exam in my graduating year was a 45 minute short story creation based on a single image. I still remember the story as I wrote it – on reflection, it might actually be worth turning into something bigger… 🤔

Well, I think I should aim for a once a fortnight update – hopefully I’m interesting enough to keep that going. In the mean time, you can follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, I’ll be updating these more often of course but I’m still working out this marketing stuff!

Unrelated – does anyone else find it difficult to get work done with pets around, cause mine seem hell bent on filling the world with too much cuteness to allow any room for productivity… Till next time!

  1. Can’t wait to watch this space Victoria and read your novel.

And no, none of us can be productive with cute doggos around.

    Let alone that gorgeous view!
